Licencié ès lettres = Bachelor of Arts 2. Studied painting in the studio, F.Quesnel (Beaux-Arts Paris 1969-1973) 3. Specialized in abstract works on canvas (oil technique) with group Exhibitions from 1973 to 1996. 4. Works held in several private collections and in the Giessen Museum in Germany. 5. Last one-man show, Atelier Ackerman, Paris, December 1995. 6. Currently shows and sells each painting presented at the Hotel Drouot, Paris, in the Young Contemporary Paintings section. Twenty years ago Eric de Belleval was inspired by the work of an artist Zao Wou-Ki hanging in the Museum of Modern art, at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. This encouraged Eric to continue his passion of painting started earlier at the atelier of F.Quesnel. The use of light coming from the painting, not from the outside is the whole premise of his work. The most notable influence on his work comes from a lyrical abstraction of oriental calligraphy. His expression and studies are therefore strongly marked by the presence of lines and color. Most of his works are characterized by the emergence of an abstract design, generally horizontal, and often distinguishes itself by a slightly violent expression. They are always with an elaborate monochrome background. The designs are worked in depth with several mixtures done with a knife. The transparent effects are a result of an unequal mixture of oils and siccative mixed in a paste. The intention of the artist is to evoke confusion and an intense emotion without attaching to any object, and allow, through his work, the observers' interior expression to play. It is an invitation for introspection in which the canvas is the support and not a mission to lecture on the meaning of the painting. The paintings are sometimes expressive, colourful; yet belong essentially to silent space, not controversy.

French abstract artist, oil on canvas Eric’s reactions to artist Zao Wou-Ki inspired him to continue his passion of painting started at the atelier of F.Quesnel (Beaux-Arts Paris 1969-1973). The use of light coming from the painting, not from the outside is the whole premise of his work. One of his first paintings was bought by the Giessen Museum in Germany. This reinforced his desire to continue. The most notable influence on his work comes from a lyrical abstraction of oriental calligraphy. His expression and studies are therefore strongly marked by the presence of lines and color.
